The Scope of Works

The extensive maintenance dredging operations spanned a vast, highly trafficked marine footprint. Key elements of the project included:

• Clearing high spots within commercial berthing pockets using specialised dredging vessels and marine equipment.

Our On-Site QHSE-S Management Role

As the dedicated on-site QHSE-S Representative, our objective was to seamlessly integrate robust safety and environmental compliance into daily marine operations. We managed the overarching environmental management plans, serving as the vital bridge between the contractor's internal systems and the strict statutory requirements of the project.

Our core safety and compliance responsibilities included:

• Site Auditing & Inspections: Conducting daily audits of all marine and construction works to verify compliance with detailed project plans and environmental frameworks.
• Compliance Tracking: Managing the comprehensive register of permits, licences, approvals, and consents to ensure all regulatory conditions and operational deadlines were met.
• Risk Assessment: Leading formal hazard identification workshops prior to operations and overseeing task-specific risk assessments and safe work practices.
• Training & Inductions: Coordinating site inductions and targeted toolbox talks to ensure all project personnel and subcontractors fully understood their QHSE-S responsibilities.
• Emergency Preparedness: Managing emergency response readiness, including the oversight of marine pollution drills and emergency exercises in accordance with international maritime codes.

Managing Environmental Sensitivities

The project was situated adjacent to highly sensitive ecological areas and marine conservation zones. We ensured operational impacts were minimised through proactive, evidence-led environmental controls:

• Water Quality Control: Overseeing highly controlled dredging techniques aligned with natural tidal flows to maximise sediment dispersion and protect local estuarine habitats.
• Spill Prevention: Enforcing strict hazardous materials protocols and ensuring all operational vessels maintained fully equipped secondary containments and compliant marine spill kits.
• Waste Management: Applying a strict hierarchical waste management strategy aligned with international environmental standards and maritime pollution regulations.
• Biosecurity & Heritage: Ensuring strict biosecurity measures were followed to prevent the introduction of invasive species, while enforcing operational exclusion zones to protect known subsea archaeological and heritage sites.
